All Aboard!

 This is our second Windstar cruise and we’re very excited for this next adventure.  The check-in process the last time around was not efficient nor overly fun.  I’m pleased to report (especially to those friends who took the first cruise to Greece) that the process is far smoother!  The health questionnaire, room 🔑 key pickup, spa and bar discussions were all held BEFORE you boarded.  

Room 622 is much more spacious than the last time around and we have a window versus a porthole.  Also, the shower is full size though my hubby still has to duck in order to wash his hair!  And, double sinks! A full size closet…say what?!!  Life is indeed good. 

First things first -Laundry   Today is day 8 of being away from home so we have an entire suitcase of dirty laundry  🧺  I’m sure we’re not the only ones who traveled before boarding the boat but I still feel bad about the amount that we’re sending!

Heading to check out the Star Legend, a little bigger boat than the last one we were on but still considered a very small boat.  Though bigger,  the layout is fairly similar.

I don’t know what the larger boats do but Windstar has a cute ceremony of raising the Windstar flag as they blare Pirates of the Caribbean theme song across the boat!


I wish I could upload the video but Blogger just won’t make it happen!  We lounged on the deck taking in the sights as we pulled away from port!  Ahoy!










Windstar Cruises are the official James Beard Foundation cruise line which essentially means they have a few recipes each night from previous James Beard winning chefs.   It’s kinda 😎 cool to see some American 🇺🇸 chefs on the menu.

Off to the lounge to hit the dance 💃 floor.   Guess who started the party off?  Yep, you guessed it-Bill!  I’m sure you didn’t guess Bill BUT we were indeed the first couple on the dance floor! Mark Libby and Mike Brown would have been proud!

I think we may have made it until 11:30pm but we were tired…like old people tired so we headed to bed   🛏️

The Sleep Worksheet

  Sleep worksheet you ask?  First of all, you should know by now that Bill V has an excel worksheet for everything.  Bless his heart.  The sleep worksheet is pure evil.  It’s intended purpose is to get us ready for the 6 hour time change.  In fact, it destroys a perfectly delightful slumber. Last night bedtime was suppose to be 8 pm with a wakeup time of 4am. Yes, you read that correctly.  Bill was dutifully in bed at a little after 8.  Being the rebel I am, I watched the Bruins game until I was confident we weren’t coming back from a 4-1 score.  You’d think getting up at 4am isn’t bad when you went to bed at 9:30 pm but you’d be wrong.  Very wrong.  Good news is that the kitchen is clean, laundry is done, paper is read, class prep is complete and my to to do list for the rest of the day is doable!

Shit's gettin' real

T-3 days until we head to Charlotte to begin our journey.  In typical Bill fashion, our itinerary is in Excel, color-coded and delivered to family.  In addition to this beautifully color-coded itinerary, I also have been provided with a clothes and toiletry checkoff list.  And, last but certainly not least, there is an excel spreadsheet of "house to-do's".  If I forget anything, it'll be my own damn fault.   Going away for this long is a packing challenge for me.  Thank goodness for summer.  I'd be screwed if I had to pack bulky clothes! I will have laundry on the boat so I really only needed to pack for seven days.  But....in typical Maureen fashion, I've packed for 18 days including workout clothes, tour clothes and dinner clothes including three pairs of sneakers, flip flops and 3 pairs of sandals.  A girl needs to look good.  Packing is like buying a purse bigger than you really need.  If there's room, it needs to be filled. To Clean or Not to Clean...

Honestly, this is not even a question.  Of course I clean the house before I leave!  Doesn't everyone?  Sheets changed, bathrooms scrubbed, floors vac'd and mopped, and fridge cleaned.  With Bill's honey-do list firmly in hand, he innocently asks "Babe, you don't clean like this when we don't travel, why do it when we travel?"  Well, played, Bill, well played.   My reason is simple...when I get back from a fabulous vacation, the only thing I want to have to do is laundry.  I want a beautifully clean house to welcome me home!    Following Cinderella's floor scrubbing and fridge cleaning, I was hungry!  Thanks to my friend Susan, dinner was prepped but what to do for lunch!  Breakfast for lunch.  Always thinking I am.  😂
